Police Report

Well, I scanned them in for fun and now you can read of when I was shot. You may notice bricoleur making an appearance as V/4 (victim 4).

There are some discrepancies that I would like to point out though. You will note that I was not interviewed for this police report. First, I never said that "we have no money". I would have said, "we don't have any money" but I didn't even say that. In fact, I was pulling out my wallet when V/2 was saying that. I had even set aside money in the motel room in case we were mugged. My parents didn't raise a fool. Second, and I have to use politically incorrect language now, they didn't say "Do them, do them now!". I pointed out to V/3 that the two were yelling at the gun holder, "Shoot them you nigger!". V/3 responded that they wouldn't have said that because they were all black. Then it hit me, she really was from Utah. It was a small deviation from what happened, so I never officially complained, but the first mistake bothers me. I'm not that stupid.

  1. Very interesting. The report seems so dry and short. I find the use of "fearing for (his/her) life" both unnecessary (of course we were fearing for our lives ... it seems a trivialization just to even mention it) and a bit of an understatement.
It also leaves out so much ... such as the insane difficulties we had finding a cab driver to take you to the hospital (I love how we "found our way" to the hospital, as if we just kinda sauntered there, taking in the sights as we went.)
I'll have to dig out my journal from those days and upload my entry ... I remember feeling (and I still feel) kinda guilty that I basically took to my heels and adopted the "flee! flee!" approach. I was halfway into the next block before I even heard the shots. They sounded like firecrackers, I remember. Or pop-gun caps. Which is why I couldn't understand how you guys had gotten hurt.
(PS ... BTW, you're just the cutest thing, blacking out my YOB. ;-)

  2. That first taxi driver was right out of a movie, but I remember you throwing yourself in front of the next taxi. It is funny when I think back on it I picture you with a cigarette in your mouth. I know that you didn't have one, but you sure do look cool smoking and halting taxis.
If anything, you should be proud that you fled like you did. I remember thinking Mary is so smart. You did the best thing, you were setting an example for us to follow. "Hey guys, look at me, do this!". In retrospect, one of us should have said "run" to get us all going. V/2 also ran, leaving me to take care of V/3, and by take care of I did nothing. What could you have done? Use yourself as a human shield? Karate chop the bad guy? It all happened too fast to really think about what is happening. I just remember thinking, "Ugh, I've been shot, I could die, there goes Spring Break." The last part being the biggest bummer. You told me that you pretty much thought the same thing. Damn, we were cool.
As for the YOB, all the other information is already on your website or in livejournal, but I don't want to be accused of being the one leaking sensitive information. Although, I don't think you care, I didn't want to take a chance.
