Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves

So, tonight I was in the high limit pit. Mid-way through the shift, a group of men came to sit at my table. They weren't dressed like the usual clients that we get in the high limit room. There were three young men and they were dressed in neo-grunge, which I guess is called "emo" now. I don't know. One of them was dressed like Ashton Kutcher with the trucker's cap. The older gentleman appeared to be their father and he reminded me of the lead singer of Soundgarden when he had long hair. He was dressed in a beige shirt with the top four buttons unbuttoned exposing his hairy chest and a gaudy gold trinket on a chain. Eventually they were joined by three women that sat behind them.

They didn't really talk to me much. They had each other for conversation. Observing their conversation, I deducted that they weren't very bright. The father was definitely the leader and they always did what he told them, whether to stay or hit. If they did something out of the ordinary without consulting their father first, he would yell at them and call them a "fucking idiot".

They didn't tip at all. Basically, they each bought in for $1,000-$2,000 and were betting $100-$500 a hand. They did alright. I had a hard time knowing if they wanted a hit or if they wanted to stay because their hand signals were vague. After three hours, they all ended up winning and then tipped me a total of $500, which I wasn't expecing.

After they left, I told the floor person that they were unusual. She said that they were gypsies. I asked her how she knew and she said that they were using gypsy hand magic on the cards. That's why I counldn't always understand what they wanted.

Gypsy hand magic is when you are a gypsy and you use your hand to cast spells on stuff. At least, that is what I could gather from the name.

No curse on me though. I think they liked me although the father did flip me off at one point, but it was all in "good fun". The floor supervisor said that when she was a dealer, gypsies would come in and she would be told to be nice no matter what or they would curse the casino. That's pretty funny.
